I strongly believe that any restoration work should be done in a very detailed and controlled manner in order to preserve the age and life of the original. I try and remove the ravages of time whilst leaving all that gives the image its character.  Each original photo is given a preliminary inspection and light clean. It is then re-photographed in extreme high definition. This is done three times with exposures calculated to give the best details in shadows, mid-tones and highlights. These images are then combined to produce very large and detailed files ready for working on. A standard sized Carte De Visite will be sized to almost 36 in and worked on pixel by pixel. This ensures that do details are lost and that damage can be identified from anything which might be image content.

The whole process is done by hand, artificial intelligence is improving, but not yet able to correctly restore fine details. 

And finally - please note. All images produced by Photo-Consult should last in excess of 100 years if carefully looked after. Try bringing a smartphone back in 100 years and expecting to be able to still see the photos on it.
